When Pete Jacobs began Black Dog Recording, he did so with the explicit goal of bringing back a way of recording that made his favorite records growing up, but with modern accessibility. The productions had to have that “big console sound,” with raw energy and emotionality, but done with modern capabilities, making the recording process faster, smoother, and painless.

Through Pete’s experience as a songwriter, touring artist, and a producer/engineer, he has sculpted a process pairing technological restraint with creative flow that lends itself to bringing the best out in a performer. By doing so, he ensures the best performance can be captured instead of endlessly polished until there is no humanity in it.

Starting the company from a humble beginning in an East Nashville basement, it was also essential to Pete to make a production company that could be accessible to anyone, from unsigned bands and artists, to successful touring bands looking for a fresh way to record that reflected the way they perform.

All of this has culminated in what is today a music production process that let’s artists make something they and their fans want to listen to over and over again!
